I was thinking of changing my Sta-Rite HRPB30 sand filter (14years old) to a cartridge. The old filter has a filter area of
4.9ft2. Based on flow rate per hour the cartridge filter I had in mind was a 320ft2 Pentair Clean and Clear Plus. Would this be a good choice? Any suggestions regarding cartridge filters would be welcome. The pool is 10,500 gallons.

That looks like a nice choice.
What is prompting the switch from sand to cartridge? |

I've read that cartridge filters can filter out smaller particles than a sand filter, ans since my filter is old I figured, why not. |

Yes, cartridge filters will filter finer particles, though not everyone can see the difference. They also save water because cleaning a cartridge takes much less water than backwashing a sand filter. On the other hand some people are bothered by the "mess" of cleaning a cartridge filter.
I would love to hear about your experiences with the new filter and how it compares to the old one once you have had it for a while. |
